Review: Adidas Samba Golf Shoes

Soccer + Golf = Adidas Samba Golf Shoe

If I were to think about one shoe that I would expect to see on a soccer player’s foot, it would be the Adidas Samba.  To me it is THE iconic shoe of soccer.  It has been around for years in various soccer versions, cleats, spikeless and a regular sole and now for 2012 Adidas introduced a golf version.

If you’ve ever owned a pair of non-golf Adidas Sambas you kind of know what to expect from the golf ones. They are similar in design, shape, fit and comfort, which puts them in a pretty good position, considering how many people wear and love Sambas.

They come in 4 main colors, black, white, blue and red.  My review pair was the blue ones.  One other really cool feature that you can see from the pictures below is also the fact that Adidas designed limited edition ones to go with each Major for 2012.  I liked them so much I picked up a pair of the Masters Sambas in the green and yellow combination.  They only made 1950 of each limited edition.  The US Open, Open Championship and PGA Championship all look really cool.

On the course they are very comfortable, I went out and walked 18 the day they came in the mail.  I had no foot pain and virtually no break in time was required.  I like the flatter fitting style of the Sambas and found the right blend of padding and support.  They use  6 THINTECH cleats in each shoe so you feel very close to the ground which I prefer.

They did feel just a tad narrower than some of the other Adidas Golf shoes, but not in a pinching or uncomfortable sort of way, but just a slightly narrower sole.  The sole itself I thought would have made a great spikeless model, since I believe there is an indoor turf version of the Samba already. The spikes offered excellent traction and didn’t clog up like some other Adidas shoes I have worn.

They are not waterproof though, just water-resistant.  I’m not sure it is a big deal, I did wear them on a rainy day, (light rain) and they kept my feet dry and didn’t seem to damage the shoe in any way.  I’d probably go with a different shoe if I knew it was going to rain hard, but for dew-sweeping and a light unexpected sprinkle these will be fine.

I think the Adidas Sambas have become one of my favorite golf shoes.  They are comfortable, they look awesome and work very well on the golf course.  So if you are a fan of soccer or Sambas, you will want to get this icon, the Adidas Sambas Golf Shoes.
