A Precise Process for Precision Irons
Irons fall into 2 categories of construction, forged or cast. Most often the better players gravitate toward the forged irons for their feel as well as their simplistic design. Cast irons tend to offer less feel, but can be shaped into more forgiving designs. While these are generalizations, this has been the trend with a few designs crossing over from one category to the other. Depending on how much you know about the actual fabrication of iron heads, you may know that it is just as much art as it is science, and when you get to mass production, often the cheapest and easiest way to build an iron is chosen. Cobra realized they couldn’t quite get the precision and feel they were looking for from forged or casting. They adapted a new process called Metal Injection Molding (MIM) which is a hybrid process of constructing an iron head. It is more precise and offers amazing feel.
Most golfers desire to see the word “forged” on their clubs because it usually signifies better feel. While for the most part this is true, the process of crushing metal into a form with a press isn’t always a precise as one might want. It can from time to time leave voids or have an inconsistency of hardness. Many manufactures have gotten really good at the process, but it can only do what it can do. In order to create an iron even softer feeling, Cobra is introducing MIM technology into their King irons. The process is all about metallurgy. The powdered version of metal can be manipulated more and formed more precisely. This is really the heart and core of these irons; feel and precision. The Cobra King Tour Irons come with Arccos Connect in the grips are ready for play. This still remains the best stat tracking system available and has proven to help golfers get better. If you didn’t look at the grip cap, you wouldn’t even know they were there. Also if you don’t want to use Arccos, then don’t, these clubs will still hit the same whether you track your stats or not. I highly recommend using the Arccos and getting the additional sensors needed for the whole bag.
