REVIEW: Mizuno JPX919 Irons
Mizuno JPX919 Tour
This was my favorite model from the new Mizuno JPX919 line. I really like the soft looks with the compact head shape. I could easily put a whole set of these in the bag and be thrilled. They have minimal offset and hide their size really well. They aren’t small blades, but a compact cavity back players iron is the best description of them. They have a really nice beveled sole which cuts into the turf just enough to take a small clean divot on each shot. Like always I was impressed by how great these feel. When you hit the sweet spot the ball just melts on impact. You feel just the softest feeling as the ball launches off the face. The new Dynamic Gold Tour 120 shaft has a smoother feeling and produces a great penetrating flight. They have a very controllable launch and hit the distance I was looking for. For me these are a great combo of feel, looks, control and accuracy with just a touch of forgiveness.
Mizuno JPX919 Forged
These are probably the best compromise between sets in the Mizuno JPX919 iron line. By that I mean, you want to play good looking players irons that feel great and perform, but really need something less demanding than a true players iron. These will be great if you are working on your game to improve it, or if you have a long history with the game, but just don’t practice much anymore. They still offer all the great Mizuno Grain Flow Forged feel but in a much more forgiving package. The Boron really helps to weight these head just right for great launch and feel. These have a wider sole and less dig at impact. They have a little more offset and a much bigger sweet spot. You are still going to get a good strong launch, easy to control and great distance. These have just a tiny more “pop” than the Tours, but really only a couple yards more. If you have iron averages, these will push the high end of your current average maybe even a half club longer. You can compromise with these irons and get all the Mizuno goodness of looks, feel and performance, but with enough forgiveness to really make them playable.
Mizuno JPX919 Hot Metal
These are going to be your “hot” irons to go after maximum distance while still having some good feel. The Mizuno JPX919 Hot Metal irons launch the ball a long ways. I had about a club longer than the other JPX919 irons. They have wide soles and barely dig at all when hitting balls. They sweep the ball right off the turf and launch it higher into the air and it carries. The feel isn’t as pure as the Tour or Forged model, but still quite nice for a game improvement club. You’ll be impressed with the feel from these irons and the giant sweet spot. These have more offset to help the higher handicap golfer find some consistency in ball striking. If you want something easy to hit and can’t handle the more demanding models, these will be a great option that you can play for a long time, even if your handicap improves.

Mizuno continues to make great irons with multiple options depending on your ability. The Mizuno JPX919 line can work for every golfer. You could make a combo set if you want more forgiveness as you get to the long irons or you can get a full set of one model which fits your needs best. The JPX919 line feels great across the board and will certainly look great in the bag. For me I’d love to go all Tour model since I really like the control, the feel, the looks and overall performance. You should test each model for yourself to see what works best for you, no matter what handicap you play, Mizuno has a JPX919 iron for your.
