REVIEW: Puma Apparel - Game That Travels - Island Time

Puma Golf is is taking a unique approach for apparel drops this season.  They realize their staffers make a  living traveling around the world.  They play some of the best courses on earth in some of the most desirable parts of the globe.  As such, they are taking their apparel launches on that journey offering some unique pieces that are inspired by the cities and venues themselves.

Apparel manufactures seem to have done this in the past with some specific tournaments.  Some Hawaiian inspired hats for the Hawaii swing, maybe some green and yellow for The Masters, and always some red, white, and blue mixed into the U.S. Open.  However, that’s about the extent.  This is the first time in recent memory where a brand has focused apparel drops that are this unique to the tournaments and locations consistent throughout the entire season.
Puma crafted their style lookbook in the form of a passport with eight unique apparel launches that fall under the umbrella, “The Game that Travels.”

“Our gear will bring to life the style, adventure and fun that our players experience each week on tour.  Each capsule is a destination that we want you to feel and experience.  Because it’s a game that has no borders.  A game that travels the world.”

The journey began in the Bahamas for the Hero World Challenge with pieces from their Saltwater series incorporating turtles, sharks, and stingrays into their prints.  The Island Time collection will feature two iconic staples of Hawaii, pineapples and palm trees. The collection travels throughout the year from California to Florida along with some major inspired collections as well.

“A lot of thought and detail went into the design of each collection to make up our Game That Travels apparel, footwear and accessories,” said Chris MacNeill, Senior Product Line Manager, Puma Golf Apparel. “It’s not just about a fun print, it’s about telling a story. These collections were designed to do just that, to transport golfers to a specific location, allowing them to experience a bit of what our athletes enjoy each season. Our players travel to some of the most iconic places in the world, and we wanted to bring the spirit and essence of those places to life.”

A thoughtful way to have fun going through the season with apparel.  This is a brilliant way shed relevancy on collections rather than just mixing up the colorways and materials.  I believe there is a lot that can be done with this every season and a way to collect unique pieces from different launches along the way.  While putter manufactures have been doing this for quite a while with their head cover launches, Puma is the first to devote this much attention to detail into the design of their apparel.  A trend that I hope Puma continues.

Bravo Puma, Bravo!
