Review: Srixon H65 Hybrid

Just Doing What a Hybrid is Supposed to Do
Sometimes my reviews are filled with “wow” factors of new clubs, others are focuses on who a certainly club might work for, and still others are simply offering brand awareness about a new product.  This one however doesn’t really fit into those categories, this one is simply stating that the Srixon H65 simply does what a hybrid is supposed to do.  It isn’t supposed to hit the ball super far, it isn’t supposed to magically hit flop shots, it isn’t meant to replace a whole bunch of clubs, it is just supposed to be easy to hit, go straight and consistently hit that distance number you need between woods and irons.  Its just doing what it is supposed to do.
While the plainness of the above statements might make you think I didn’t like the club, but actually quite the opposite, I really liked this club because I didn’t have to think about it.  The Srixon H65 hybrid just blending into my bag so nicely that I didn’t have to worry about bad shots, I didn’t have to think about the distance, I didn’t have to adjust anything when putting it in the bag.  It just does what it is supposed to do.

The Srixon H65 does have the same power wave sole like the other woods in the new Srixon line up.   This creates a very forgiving club by allowing the entire sole to flex.  The arc channel in the crown also adds some “slot” technology to this club making it easy to launch as well.   It is more “wood” styled with a decent sized head that sits square behind the ball.  It had a more flat toe which is appealing to some golfers compared the many high-toe hybrids.

The Srixon H65 hybrid comes speced at D2 with a Miyazaki Kaula 7 shaft in it.   This shaft is smooth and puts a nice kick into the ball.  It is just a touch on the light side, but didn’t impact control in any way.  The sound is a good solid whack and the ball really pops off the face. I went with the 3 hybrid at 19* as my gap filler club between irons and 3-wood.  It comes as a fairly straight forward, nice looking hybrid.  It didn’t take any time to adjust to having this club in my bag.  It looked right and played right.

I put the Srixon H65 hybrid in the bag here for spring rounds in AZ and it was ready to go from the first swing.  A long par 3 over desert waste land and the results was a straight shot right at the center of the green at a perfect 215 yard distance.  The next shot was a par 5 out of light rough, again 210 yards to the center of the green.  It was just a repeat, shot after shot of good results with little thought or worry.   It had good height, went very straight and stopped at the distances I wanted.

The Srixon H65 Hybrid is one of those club that could easily stay in the bag for a long time, not necessarily for wow factor, but because a trusty club that just does its job is often nice to have instead of that “wows” from time to time, but also disappoints.  This hybrid hits the ball on a solid high trajectory with good distance, yet stops on greens.  You can just drop this club in your bag and go with little thought, because it just does what it is supposed to do.
