Review: Streamsong Resort Golf Courses, Central FL

Hands Down the Best Golf Resort in FL
I know that is a bold statement, especially looking at the list of courses and resorts that rank high in FL, but I’m pretty comfortable saying that after playing the two courses at Streamsong Resort in the middle of nowhere FL.  While some people are making comparisons to some other great courses around the country, I think these two courses stand on their own two feet.  There is nothing like them in the state of FL and only dozen or so courses around the US that are in a similar style.

Getting to these courses built in the middle of an old phosphate mine isn’t really all that difficult.  They are only 1.5 hour from Orlando and 1 hour from Tampa.  While distance or time isn’t that big of deal, they literally are in the middle of nowhere.  The closest “town” is 15 minutes away, but that shouldn’t stop you from playing these courses. Their new lodge has everything you’ll need to stay and enjoy your rounds and night there.  If you live in the state of FL they are a must play.  If  you live anywhere else in the US,  put these on the top of your list of places to play, the resort hotel is  done and you now have a beautiful place to stay.  In my opinion these should be on your top 10 public places to play.  Another benefit these courses have being built in FL is that they will have year round golfing weather which some other great courses don’t have.  The only draw back could be the summer months might get really hot with no shade anywhere on the course, but the covered carts should offer enough shade to play even on the sunniest of days.  The now completed Streamsong resort has 200+ rooms, restaurants, a spa, guided fishing tours, and 36 holes of “hands down” the best golf in the state and really some of the best golf in the world.

The Lodge

I played at Streamsong Resort on the official opening of the courses in 2013.  I returned in 2014 to see the newest addition to the property, the Lodge. (and play the Blue course)  The  biggest change from last year to this year is that addition of the Lodge or Hotel.  It is a large building that is far enough from the golf course to not feel like it is right on top of you, but yet within eye sight of a few holes.  It does require a drive of some sort to get between the two locations on the property.  But the unique style of the Lodge will really appeal to both the golfer just using it for home base or the non-golfer who will call it their home of rest and relaxation for a number of days.

Immediately the impressive structure which rises out of the formal phosphate mine grabs your attention with its style and brilliance.  From the main entrance it is big and modern, but looking through the main entrance out on the yard, pool and pond give you sense of its relaxing qualities.  The main lobby is modern yet cozy as you can head to the lounge bar, enjoy a book by the fireplace or head off to your room.

The rooms are done in a modern yet warm way with fireplaces and woods and unique features and layouts that make it comfortable and function yet slightly different from your typical hotel room.  Everything was done with an artistic flair and local infusion.  Outside the hotel is a beautiful grounds the overlooks a fishing pond.  The infinity edged pool and cabanas will be great for soaking in the sun and heat and the restaurants and bars on site will keep you close to home for the extent of your stay.  (since their is nothing else within 20 minutes that will keep you there too)  I also think the large conference centers will bring in FL businesses for meetings and gatherings.
I really think Streamsong is the new destination resort in FL.  There are a couple of other that are great, but none have this sort of unique and classy lodging paired with 36 holes of amazing golf.   It really would be best experienced as at least a 2 day trip.  Enjoy all 36 holes because they are so good, I’m still not sure which 18 is better.  I liked different aspects about each course.   This place is easily hands down the best golf resort in FL.
